Pulses

In agricultural terms, Pulses are defined as annual leguminous crops that are yielded from one or more than one( can be twelve as well) grains and seeds of different size, shape and color. It is considered one of the important component in terms of the contribution of minerals demanded by the body. Pulses are generally used for food and animal feed. So those of you who are least bothered about your pulses intake, gear up and get aware of the proper nutrients that is needed for the growth and the development of body processes and functions. Else it might be too late when you wake up later on !
Facts about Pulses:
According to FAO( Food and Agricultural Organization) , the term Pulses is actually reserved for the crops that is harvested exclusively for dry grain. One of the important food crops due to their high protein level, Pulses also have essential amino acid content. Like many other leguminous crops, Pulses too play an important part in the crop rotation due to their ability to fix nitrogen.

Nutritional value of Pulses: Generally Pulses consists of the total 20 to 25% protein by weight, which is about double the protein content when compared to wheat and three times when compared to rice. Purely for this reason, pulses are sometimes called "poor man’s meat". Pulses are generally high in protein. Another fact to be kept in mind is the digestibility factor of protein which is very high, they often are relatively poor in the essential amino acid methionine.
