Try hard as you might, you cannot simply avoid the intake of Cereals. Nutritional value of cereals:
Mentioning about the types of Cereals, it may be said that there are many different types of cereal grains, each having unique properties of their own. Also it should be kept in mind that most of the Cereals are processed to form other foods or ingredients. An important source of energy, the Cereals and the respective cereal products are an important source of energy like carbohydrate, protein and fiber. Besides these, they also have wide range of micro nutrients such as vitamin E and B, sodium , zinc and magnesium. Some cereal products also contribute substantial amount of calcium and iron. Cereals are actually edible seeds or grains that belong to the grass family and have been a part of the human times right from the prehistoric times.

Wheat – wide range of products are obtained by grounding wheat to flour.
Maize or corn - can be processed to obtain different alternative ingredients.
Barley - mainly sold and known as pearl barley, which is actually whole grain with its husk removed completely.
Brown rice -the outer husk is removed in this type.
Rye-produces breads with low volume and a dense texture. Also used to produce crisp bread and alcohol.
Oats -coarse, medium and fine grades of oatmeal are available for making porridge and oatcakes.

Millet actually signifies different small-grained cereal grasses.
